ICAG Student Registration & ATSWA

Enquiries and online registration for student membership are usually handled by the Students’ Services Department.

Studentship & Registration Requirements

  • Original birth certificate or any birth identity.
  • Passport-size photograph.
  • Original educational certificates – WASSCE, HND, Diploma, Degree, MSc, MBA, etc. First or second degree and a transcript where applicable.
To register as a student and apply for exemptions, visit sms.icagh.org. Successful applicants are required to pay a registration fee of GH¢400.00 and subscription of GH¢400.00. Applicable exemption fees are payable by applicants who qualify.

Applicants must be at least 16 years and possess an acceptable qualification. SSSCE/GBCE/DBS holders require six (6) passes (A–D), including English and Mathematics. WASSCE holders require six credits including English and Mathematics. Diploma, HND, Degree, Masters and other qualifications acceptable to the Institute may also qualify.

Documents to Upload

  • Photocopy of any birth identity – passport, national ID, birth certificate, NHIS ID, etc.
  • Passport-size photograph.
  • Original educational certificate(s) and transcripts.

Steps to Follow on the Portal

  1. Log on to sms.icagh.org.
  2. New student: Click “Register” and follow the instructions.
  3. Existing student: Click “Activate Account” to update your status.

Examination Scheme

The examination is in three (3) levels. Level 1 must be completed before Levels 2 and 3. Students are required to write a minimum of two (2) papers in any order in Levels 1 and 2. At Level 3, students are required to write all four (4) papers.

Exemption Policy

  • BSc Adm., B.Ed. (Accounting option), B.Com.: Exemption from Level 1 and two Level 2 papers: 2.3 Audit & Assurance and 2.6 Principles of Taxation.
  • HND Accountancy Option: Exempted from Level 1 and 2.3 Audit & Assurance.
  • ATSWA: Exempted from Level 1 and two Level 2 papers: 2.3 Audit & Assurance and 2.6 Principles of Taxation.
  • Other qualifications: Subject-for-subject exemptions up to Level 2 where applicable, except Public Sector Accounting and Finance.

Examination Centres & Period

Centres: Accra-Zenith, Attraco, Tema, Takoradi, Koforidua, Ho, Kumasi-WAEC, Kumasi-GIMPA, Sunyani, Wa, Bolgatanga, Tamale and Cape Coast.

Period: Examinations are held in March, July and November every year. Candidates are required to apply at least two (2) months before the examination date.

Bank Payment Instructions

Provide your full name, Student Registration Number (SRN), and state the purpose of payment on the pay-in-slip.

For offline payments, upload the payment advice through the Pay Offline option with the transaction reference/receipt number, then call Finance on 0557964560 for the bill to be cleared.

Accounting Technician’s Scheme West Africa (ATSWA)

The Association of Accountancy Bodies in West Africa (ABWA), in pursuance of regional cooperation and integration and its commitment to strengthening and consolidating Accounting Standards and Practice, has put in place the Accounting Technician’s Scheme West Africa (ATSWA).

ATSWA Student Registration Requirements

  • Be at least 16 years of age.
  • Be a fit and proper person to be registered.
  • Six WASSCE passes with aggregate 24, including English Language and Mathematics.
  • Six GBCE passes with aggregate 24, including English Language and Business Mathematics.
  • Diploma in Business Studies (DBS).
  • Diploma in Public Finance and Accountancy.
  • Any other relevant qualification approved by the Institute.

Examination Date & Centres

Examinations are normally held twice a year in March and September. Ghana centres are Accra, Kumasi, Cape Coast and Sunyani.

Benefits of Holding ATSWA Certificate

  • Graduates may become associate members of the Association of Accounting Technicians and use “AATWA” after acquiring one year’s relevant work experience.
  • Graduates may proceed to the CA professional examinations with exemptions from Level I papers, 2.3 Audit & Assurance and 2.6 Principles of Taxation at Level II.
