ATSWA QUALIFICATION
Accounting Technician Scheme West Africa (ATSWA)
A technician-level professional programme established by the Association of Accountancy Bodies in West Africa (ABWA) to strengthen accounting standards and practice across the region.
Admission Requirements
- Applicant must be at least 16 years of age.
- Applicant must be a fit and proper person to be registered.
- Accepted qualifications include WASSCE, GBCE, DBS, Diploma in Public Finance and Accountancy, and other relevant qualifications approved by ICAG.

Exemption Guidelines
DBS — Accounting Option
Exemption from all subjects in Part I.
AAT/CAT (UK)
Exemption from Parts I, II and III except Law and Taxation.
Diploma in Public Finance Accounting
Exemption from Parts I and II.
Other Qualifications
Subject-for-subject exemptions may apply in Parts I and II.
Benefits of ATSWA
- After one year of relevant work experience, graduates may be admitted as associate members of the Association of Accounting Technicians and use the designation AATWA.
- ATSWA graduates may progress to the CA professional examinations with exemptions from Level 1, Audit & Assurance, and Principles of Taxation.
Registration
Candidates wishing to sit ATSWA examinations must first register as students online, upload a passport photograph, certificate and identity card, complete all required fields and submit the application.
